Pericardial Disease

The sac that covers the heart is called the pericardium and it can be affected by a variety of conditions such as inflammation (pericarditis), fluid accumulation (pericardial effusion) and stiffness (constrictive pericarditis). The cause of these conditions varies eg after heart attacks, viral or bacterial infections, cancer, connective tissue disease etc.
